Carly White::
A rusty red pickup truck carried me into the apartment complex. I was really looking for something bigger, and my dream was to own a successful ranch with all the horses I could care for, but that was just a dream. For now. The back of my truck held boxes stacked as high as I could get them without them falling off on the highway over here. I turned the wheel to the right and pulled into a parking pace in front of my new home. The truck rumbled to a stop and I pushed a strand of hair behind my ear and looked at the tall white apartment building. It was so boring... I sighed and opened my door to step out on the asphalt. It was hot, but I had to get this done. Pulling out my new key, I walked up the stairs to the second floor and found my apartment. When I opened it, the smell of a new house greeted me and I pretended it wasn't just a small apartment. But it was hard to forget this was all I could afford.
The place was nice enough. I could see myself here. But like I said before, this was temporary. I nodded and walked back out, pulling the door closed behind me. Walking to the bed of my truck, I wondered how long I would have to work to raise enough money to board a horse. It was an idea, and it was still owning one. I pondered the thought while I carried the first box into the apartment. I put the box down on the floor in the living room and read the scribbled words on the side. It said Kitchen and so I moved it in there. Then I went out to get the next box. I wondered how long this would take...

Another truck pulled into the apartment complex. This one lage, black and shiny like it was brand new. The only sign of it being used was a thin layer of dust along the silver bumpers, and pieces of hay strewn all over the bed. It parked in the spot next to the rusty looking red truck and the dark driver side window rolled down the slightest. The engine shut off and the door opened slowly. Out stepped a worn leather brown cowboy boot and long, bare, tan legs. Short jean shorts and a crisp, clean, white tank top. The woman had fair, tanned skin, long blonde hair, loose around her face and dark shades hiding beautiful blue green eyes. She turned and looked around then walked along the side of the truck, looking in the bed. A shaggy, though clean cut dog popped out of the drivers door just before it shut and ran right to it's master's feet, pink tounge hanging out. The woman petted the dog on the head and then noticed the woman carrying boxes. "Need some help?" she asked in a friendly way with a warm soft smile. A slender hand raised the shades to finally show mysterious blue green eyes that held many secrets. "My name's Roxy." she introduced and her eyes gazed over the boxes. "New here?" she asked with a chuckle.

I lifted the next box, but it was heavier than it looked so I dropped it again, back on the truck bed. A shiny black truck pulled up beside my rusty red one and I sighed, looking at the comparison. It didn't bother me much though. I liked the old rusty truck. It had character. A slim, tan girl stepped out of the truck followed by a dog. I smiled at the little dog and then noticed the girl approaching me. My name's Roxy. Need some help? Then a laugh as she looked over the boxes. New here? I nodded and smiled warmly. "Yeah, I'm Carly. How could you tell?" I laughed and looked at my boxes. Then I looked back at the dog and lowered myself so I was squatting in front of him. "What's his name?" I asked, petting the dog's head. I was glad to know someone now, so I wasn't completely alone here. I stood up again and looked back to Roxy. She seemed nice enough, probably new her way around here. That would be helpful so I knew where to ask directions.

Roxy smiled and leaned against the rusty old truck, looking down on the girl. She perched her sunglasses just ontop of her blonde hair and smirked. "Just a wild guess. A truck full of boxes normally only means one thing." She smiled warmly, happy to meet another new face. She was a bubbly person who liked to talk and chatter, got in trouble for it back home. But it was comfortable for her to meet new people and make new friends. The dog came up to Carly when she got down on his level. His long thick tail beat around and he leaned into her wanting any attention this new face would give. The blue and white pit bull was quiet, giving only a whimper and sad look to get the strangers attention. "That's Bo." Roxy said nodding some. The pit bull had belonged to her husband and Roxy brought him everywhere with her now a days. Her own dog was back on the farm, taking care of horses who couldn't behave or chickens who got too close to the road.

I smiled at Roxy when she mentioned the dogs name and gave hm another pat on the head. When I stood up, I looked back a the boxes in the back of my truck. Then I looked at the sky. It was blue, perfectly clear without a single cloud. And yet, I still wanted to get the boxes in. I would go back to storage later to get more stuff, but for now, I put my attention on my new potential friend. "Maybe I should get some of these in...if you don't mind...?" I hesitated, wondering if she really would want to help. I hated moving boxes, but I wouldn't mind so much if I had help. But I didn't want her to feel obligated either. I lifted a slightly lighter box than the last and waited for Roxy's answer. I wondered if Roxy lived in this complex or not. Judging by the hay, I guessed not. That made me curious as to why she was here, but I didn't ask. I would rather not get into something if there was something to get in to.

Roxy smiled and nodded moving to the back of this new woman's truck. "Sure, no problem." she said that happy smiled still on her face. "Quicker you get unpacked, quicker you get to see town, not that there's much to see." She watched as Carly picked up a box and Roxy looked through them. She was warned not to lift anything too heavy, normally she didn't listen to rules, but she didn't want to cause any complications to her current situation. Leaving the heavier box on the tailgate, she went for a lighter one, still not super light, but nothing to cause her concerns. Turning to Carly then, she looked up at the complex, she didn't live here, but worked a part time job at the desk on nightshift to help a few friends. "Just show me where." she said happily taking a few more steps as Bo followed behind.

My new friend smiled and picked up a box. "Of course, I'll have to see the town. Especially since I've yet to get any food." I smiled and led the way into my apartment, kicking the door out of the way. "This is it. You can put that one there." I motioned to the middle of the living room and looked at the word on mine. Bedroom I took it to my room and then came back out to the living room. The apartment wasn't so bad. White walls which I was allowed to paint, a light tan colored carpet. Pets were allowed if they were small and house trained. It wouldn't be bad at all. I pushed my hair away from my face and looked around the room.

Roxy carefully set the box down in the middle of the living room. "Yeah, there's not much around here but the food's decent." She tilted her head some thinking that food sounded pretty darn good right now. Crossing her arms over her ribcage, she looked around the room. Bo trotted off to inspect the new place and then took to rolling around on the soft living room carpet at Roxy's feet. "Well c'mon." she said looking to Carly again. "Let's get you unpacked and then get some dinner. I'm hungry and don't have to really be back here for duty for a few more hours." She smiled softly, hoping maybe to have a new friend in this woman. She'd only lived in the town just under three months, and had a few good friends but it couldn't help to have some more.

When I returned, Roxy brought up food. Just about then, I felt the deep feeling of hunger inside my stomach just before the rumbling sound of my body expressing the need for something to eat. I smiled, "Well I guess it would be a good idea to eat then...if I wasn't worried about my boxes being stolen, I would suggest we go now." I held the door open and waited for Roxy to follow me back out to get more. Roxy's dog Bo rolled around on the carpet and I watched him, amused. I loved animals and couldn't wait to get a pet of my own. Probably a dog for now. Maybe soon I could get enough money saved to get that horse I wanted.

( I know it says not done, but it's been sitting here a few days so I figured I'd just reply.) Roxy smiled and followed her out of the door, with a slight nod and small laugh. "I don't think anyone would steal your stuff, but if you're that worried, we'll get them up here. Between the two of us, it won't take long and then I'll treat you to you're first meal in town." She grinned, with the bright smile of hers, and gently trotted down the stairs back down to the parking lot. Bo was right on her heels, his tail wagging tounge still hanging out of his mouth. She grabbed another box from the girl's truck and headed back up to the room. She was rather in a hurry almost, her own stomach growling and she knew she'd better eat soon before she got sick.

I smiled and nodded to Roxy. This would be easy with her help. And it didn't take us long to get all the boxes inside. I stood in the living room and looked around, boxes surrounding us. "A job well done, if I say so myself." I grinned and turned to the door, sweeping my keys of the kitchen counter and grabbing them up in my hand. "Now let's get something to eat," I said , rubbing my stomach and feeling it growl under my hand. I definitely needed food.
When we got downstairs, I looked at the two trucks. "Who's truck do you want to take?" I asked, turning back to Roxy and Bo. "Since you're buying the food, maybe I should at least pay for the gas..." I said motioning to my rusty red pickup. Then I remembered that I never locked the door to my apartment. "Oh, hold on just a sec." I ran up the steps and locked my door, and then ran back down. "Heh..forgot to lock the door." I smiled again and pushed a strand of hair away from my face...again. Those long blond curls were always in my way.

Roxy smiled and watched as Carly ran off to lock the door. She laughed the slightest when she returned. "Your truck's fine." she said walking over to the passenger door. She opened it gently, and Bo jumped up finding his place in between the driver and passenger seats. Roxy smiled at the dog and shook her head, hauling herself up in the seat. She fidgeted a little, getting comfortable and finally reached around, putting her seatbelt on. She lowered the dark shades from the top of her head back on her eyes, and crossed her arms over, her clean white tank top. She knew it wouldn't stay clean long. "So did you see any place good to eat on the way in?" she asked, thinking up places where they could go.

Roxy got inside the truck and Bo followed. I smiled and shoved the key into the ignition and put on my seat belt. My rusty old truck also had rusty old doors so I had to pull hard and slam my door closed. A lot of people would tell me to get a new truck, but like I always said, it had character. I turned back to Roxy as she spoke. "Um..not much. A McDonalds and a Golden Corral...the usual." I laughed and put the truck in reverse. "But you're buying so you can pick." I backed out of my parking space and headed toward the north side of town, where I saw all the food places. Being hungry, I just wanted food.

Roxy shook her head when Carly mentioned a McDonalds and Golden Corral. "No, no." she said laughing. "I want some good food. " she muttered and pointed down the road as Carly drove along. "How about Road House?" she asked turning slightly to face her. "Good food and Bo here, loves a nice leftover steak." She smirked and put her arm around the pit bull, scratching his chest. The dog wagged his tail and Roxy got rather quiet as memories flooded her head. For a moment she imagined, it was her husband next to her, and not this new friend. And they would be laughing and joking around, Bo barking every so often to join in the conversation and Roxy would have to remind the man to keep his eyes on the road and not his beautiful wife. She sighed, bringing herself to reality, reminding herself that that was the past and now she had to focus on getting some food, keep this baby healthy and have some little part of her husband left. To put on a smile and get on with life, she wasn't ready to talk about it and only Bo knew the truth. Seeimg to feel the change in Roxy, Bo whined and nuzzled her gently with big brown innocent eyes.

Carly smiled. The sounds of McDonalds and Golden Corral weren't great so when Roxy mentioned an unfamiliar place, she nodded. "Sounds good. I've never been there before." She smiled and glanced over at Roxy every few moments, trying to focus on the road but feeling some kind of change. Bo seemed to notice because a slight whine emitted from the dog's mouth. A stop light turned red ahead of the truck and Carly slowed down and stopped in front of it. Then she turned to her friend. "Something wrong?" She didn't think Roxy would say anything, after all they hardly knew each other yet.
