Kenyan sat in his land on the sandy beach of the large pond. Above and around him the waterfall roared and sprayed a nice mist down upon him. He loved the feeling. Delilah was out somewhere and he was left to ponder about the future. This war was crazy and he could only hope it would die down soon. Looking up he could see the entrance to the cave him and his mate slept in up in the rocks behind the waterfall. It was very secluded and warm and safe feeling. The waterfall offered protection as well as a form of life. It was also entertaining. Sticking his noce into the pounding water he laughed as him fell down on him. It was the coolest feeling and it just brought a sense of puppyhood to him.

Nicola was wandering, her breathing ragged, shallow, and harsh, all at the same time. She'd been trotting for hundreds of miles, running from her past. Her "mate" of sorts, a rough forcer named Argo, would surley have noticed her absence by now, and was probably even be looking for her. She couldn't stop; if she stopped, he would find her. But she couldn't go forward any longer. She collapsed down on the ground, yelping with the pain it caused her empty stomach. Even yelping hurt; her throat was dry, having not had a drink in days. She heard the crashing roar of a waterfall nearby, could smell the crystal clear scent it made, but she couldn't force herself forward, couldn't stand. If this is the end, let me go peacefully, she prayed silently, sure that the hope would be wasted. Good things tended to avoid her.

The young male's ears pricked at a very strange sound, a dry cracked sharp sort of voice. He jumped to his feet right away as his nature intended. He was one of pure kindness and raised to be respectful, honest, and most of all caring and in tune to that around him. He searched the space around him looking for the source of the sound. The waterfall made it hard to hear any other noises but he knew he heard something. With Delilah off somewhere he wondered if it was her that was in trouble and ran off into the grass to see. Surely it woulnd't be another wolf. Many other had dissapeared or been killed in the war.
Seeing a figure he stopped dead in his tracks. It definately was not his mate. "Hello?" he questioned moving closer to the wolf. He wished not to be attacked if this one was playing some game on him. On further investigation it seemed it was a large female collapsed with fatige. "Can you get up?" he asked softly. "There's plently of water just a few yards away."

Nicola's vision was blurry, black spots crowding her vision. The tall shape over her looked so much like Argo, that she feared it was him at first, come to finish her off. But the voice was so soft, kind, that it couldn't have possibly come from he, so she felt more at ease. But this new wolf could still pose some sort of threat, so she stayed wary. She was still heaving for breath, the black spots dancing across her sight and getting larger. "I-" she whispered, her voice to hoarse to say more. She tried, unsucessfully, to stand, only to collapse when she put pressure on her feet, which were cracked and bleeding.

"Just stay still then." he said lowering his head to the ground. He forced his head under her body and did his best to balance her over his back. Walking ever so slowly to the waterfall he debated what to do next. He couldn't just throw her in. He made his way to a very shallow part of the lake and lowered her down. The water wasn't even enough to cover her body completely but it would cool her off and quench her thirst. He sat silently by the lake waiting for her to come to. Wondering if she would just run off.

The water tickled Nicola's sensitive, dry nose, and made her sneeze. Her tongue tasted the water carefully, as if wondering whether or not it were really there, before her, like a saving grace. She drank slowly, remembering something about not drinking fast when you're dehydrated; it would make you sick. She sighed, closing her eyes and splashing herself. The water wasn't enough to completely make her feel better; her stomach growled loudly, contracting in a mean way that caused her to flinch. She glanced up at the strange wolf, unsure if he was the Alpha, and if he would give her some food.

"Just tell me what you need." he said willing to do anything to care for her. His kind spirit caused trouble sometimes but he couldn't live any other way. Seeing her reactions a liht went on in his head and he ran off up the rocks and into the den. In the back he rumaged around to find a nice large rabbit he had saved. Jumpin and hopping down the rocks he dropped it at the femme's feet. "Please eat it." he offered knowing know she was starving. He wished to go off and hunt for something bigger but didn't feel right leaving her alone.

After glancing up at him once, warily, she debated on whether or not to eat the offered rabbit. But, as she took a breath in through her nose, the scent caused her stomach to growl and roar, and she gave in quickly, lowering her face to the warm rabbit. When she was done, hardly anything left of the rabbit, she looked back up at him. The food hadn't settled in to her muscles yet, to provide them the strength they so desperately needed, so she stayed laying down. "Thank you," she said, no smile on her face. It wasn't in her nature to be kind; it felt all wrong. Where she came from, the only way to stay alive was to be mean, cruel, and harsh; her parents would have offed her long ago if she hadn't been as hard as they. She was dead set in her ways.

"Your very welcome." he replied laying down. He stayed a few feet away from her in the grass next to the lake. He was still unsure of the strange female and didn't know what to think of her. He didn't speak not wanting to offend her or anything. Instead he just layed there watching the beautiful waterfall cascade down and bash into the rocks below filling the lake.

While she hated being social, she also hated stupid silences, and was usually the first to break them. "So I take it you're the Alpha male here?" she inquired, in a rough voice. She took another long drink, savouring the perfect sensation as it cooled her. She moved her paws around in the water, wincing as they stung, the dirt washing away in the cool waters. The blood was done running from the wounds; if she could manage to stay off them for a little while, they would heal.

"Yes, my mate and I claimed this land a while ago." he sighed thinking of his mate. He wondered where in the world she must have gone to. "And I take you're not from around here?" he asked back looking at her really for the first time. He could tell she had been traveling for a long while but the cold water seemed to do her good. He sighed and layed his head down on his paws siently still watching the female unsurely.

Nicola sighed, an echo of his; this, she was expecting. "No, I'm from.... far away." She hesitated before answering, unsure if she could trust him with any information. No doubt Argo would follow her, and if this male gave any clue that she'd been here.... That would spell disaster for him, his mate, and certainly Nicola. Then, on the other hand, she wondered if she should tell him about what was happening with her. It certainly wasn't doing her sanity any good, keeping it all locked in her mind. So she decided to let one piece of information out, and see if he would ask more about it. "I'm on the run."

"Oh." he said though he wasn't to suprised by it. She seemed the type to be running from something. He stood and made his way down the water taking a drink. He offered no more words not wanting her to feel obligated to telling him something she didn't want him to really know. He sat then, giving a yawn, and looked down at her once more. "You know you look like you're going to be off your feet for awhile. You're welcome to stay here." he nodded his head and then shook it. "I'm Kenyan by the way."

She was starting to feel much better, and even offered a tentitive half smile. It was all off; her eyes didn't smile with her, and her face looked solemn, but it was the best she could do. "Nicola," she said, returning his introduction. Grudgingly, she added, "I don't think I'll stay long. He's bound to come looking for me here, and you're likely to be killed when he comes." She flinched as she thought of why she was running from him. Unwillingly, the memories of her pups came flooding back to her. Argo, standing over them, grinned as he snapped her firstborn's neck. At the time, Nicola had barely flinched, but now it was killing her. What hurt the worst, though, was hearing the youngest, the runt, and her only daughter, cry for help as Argo came for her. The little girl, named Kinya, had tears in her eyes, as she saw that her mother wouldn't save her. Nicola shook her head, trying to clear the thoughts away, to suppress them.

The cream male jumped to his feet. "Who will kill me?" he demanded. He saw the sadness in her eyes and it killed him a little in a way. "If this will cause trouble to me and my mate, know that I can only protect you for so long." He wasn't even thinking of throwing her out but his mate came first in his life and if she was in danger than he must be on guard for whatever it was that would come to haunt him.
